TITLE: Midland Hotel 1
LOCATION: Morecambe
DESCRIPTION: Built in 1933, the Midland was the first Art Deco hotel in Britain. It is also the only one to survive. Work has started on the first phase of the £7million 22-month Midland Hotel refurbishment to protect the grade two listed hotel's famous art deco works. Features added to the building since its opening in the 1930s, including the sun lounge and fire escapes, will be "peeled back" and replaced with additions that, will be designed to complement architect Oliver Hill's original vision.
